NRV Rear Garden Installation

The Problem
The manhole in the back garden was getting overwhelmed every time it rained, flooding the paved area at the rear. No sewerage backed up into the house at any point, but the homeowners did not want to take the chance and wanted mitigation put in place.

The Assessment
Our team carried out a full inspection, which included:
- CCTV surveying of the drainage system
- Dye testing of laterals and pipe connections
- Taking precise measurements to confirm suitability for an upgraded NRV
- Producing a detailed report identifying faults, access restrictions, and installation constraints

The Solution
Following our assessment, we recommended removing the paving slabs and excavating down to the manhole chamber. The existing chamber was removed, and a non-return valve was installed in its place. Pipework was adjusted, and square concrete sections were installed to form a new access chamber for the NRV. The area was then concreted, and the original paving slabs and cover were reinstated, as requested by the homeowners.
Key Steps
1. CAT scanning the area, followed by safely lifting and removing paving slabs.
2. Hand digging to the required depth and size to allow for concrete chamber sections.
3. Adjusting pipework and installing the non-return valve.
4. Installing the base, building the chamber, reinstating the paving to a high standard, pointing slabs, and clearing the site.

The Result
The installation was completed successfully, with no recurring flooding in the rear garden. Reinstatement was finished to a high standard, with the homeowner commenting that the area was left in better condition than before, resolving cracked slabs and minor standing water issues.
