Basement Pump Upgrade

The Problem

The existing basement flip pump had failed due to age and constant overuse. The system was undersized for the number of occupants using the facilities, which led to frequent overloading. This caused stagnant water to remain in the chamber, resulting in corrosion, leaking pipework, and persistent unpleasant odours within the basement flat.

The Assessment

Our team carried out a full inspection, which included:

- Pumping out stagnant water and thoroughly cleaning the chamber and pump

- Completing a full capacity assessment of the existing system

- Conducting CCTV surveys and dye testing of laterals and connections

- Taking detailed measurements of the chamber size and depths

- Producing a detailed report based on our findings

The Solution

Our assessment confirmed that the existing tank and pump were undersized for the level of
usage. We recommended upgrading the system from a smaller Compli 400 unit to a larger Compli 1010 flip pump, along with the installation of a new sump and sump pit to improve drainage performance and eliminate odour issues.

Key Steps

1. Removing the existing pump system.

2. Installing temporary pipework and a temporary non-return valve to maintain service.

3. Breaking out the chamber walls and floor to increase capacity and allow space for the
new pump and sump.

4. Concreting the floor slab and shuttering the walls
5. Installing the new Compli 1010 flip pump, sump, and associated pipework.

6. Reinstating the area, including fitting a new Techno cover and access steps.

The Result

The upgraded pump system and pipework were fully tested and commissioned to confirm
correct operation and reliable performance. The upgrade was completed successfully, with no technical issues reported. The improved
system capacity and sump installation eliminated stagnant water and odours, providing a reliable and long-term solution for the basement property.
